Greece Public Library Receives Schubert Award for Library Excellence

The Greece Public Library has been named recipient of the 2012 Joseph F. Schubert Library Excellence Award.

The award is named after former State Librarian Joseph F. Schubert and is sponsored by the New York State Regents Advisory Council.

The award is given annually to recognize a library or library consortium that has taken significant steps within the past two years to improve the quality of library services offered to users. The award includes a $1,000 gift given by the Friends of the New York State Library.

The library was recognized for its focus on targeting its collection of materials toward what its users wanted and for redesigning its space to facilitate more programming and a comfortable community gathering place.  Library Director Bernadette Foster said it was a team project;

“Every single staff person here worked on this project,” said Foster. “Every librarian and every clerk. It was a real joint effort to get better service for our users.”
