A Brief History of Greece
Originally called Northampton, the Town of Greece was officially established by the New York State Legislature on March 22, 1822. It was named after the country of Greece in honor of the 1821 Greek revolution. Agriculture was the primary industry until the twentieth century, when the Eastman Kodak Company became the dominant industrial employer in the region. The Town of Greece experienced a population boom post World War II and today has a population of approximately 95,000 and enjoys a robust commercial and manufacturing economic base and rich culture and history.
